Privacy policy

This policy explains what NameBento does with your personal data. The short version: we collect an email address if you subscribe, whatever you write if you contact us, and nothing else that identifies you.

Who is responsible

What we collect, and why

If you subscribe

Your email address, so we can send you the newsletter. The legal basis is your consent, given when you submit the form. Subscriptions are managed by Beehiiv, which stores the address and records whether emails were opened.

If you buy a domain

The email address you paid with, the amount and which domain it was for. That address is also where the transfer invite goes, so it is both the record of the sale and the whole of the delivery. The legal basis is performance of our contract with you: without it we cannot give you what you paid for. We may also keep a short internal note about the sale if something about it needed handling by hand.

If you contact us

Your name, email address and the content of your message, so we can reply. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you. Messages are delivered by Resend and land in our mailbox.

When you browse

Our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs including IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running. We also use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and Vercel Speed Insights to measure how fast pages load. Both are cookieless and neither builds a profile of you, which is why this site has no cookie banner. When something breaks, Sentry receives the error: which page, what went wrong, and the code that failed. It is configured not to collect personal data, and it does not record your screen or your session. We set no advertising cookies and run no analytics that profile you.

What we never see

Payments are taken on a checkout page hosted by Stripe. Your card number, its expiry and its security code go straight to them and never reach our servers. We could not charge your card again if we wanted to, because we do not hold anything that would let us.

Who else processes your data

• Beehiiv: newsletter delivery and subscriber list.
• Stripe: payment processing. They hold the card details we never see, and the record of the payment.
• Resend: the emails we send you, both about a purchase and from the contact form.
• Vercel: hosting, server logs, page analytics and page speed measurements.
• Sentry: error reports, so a broken page can be fixed rather than waited out. On their European region, so those reports stay in the EU.
• Neon: our database. It holds the domain listings, and, if you have bought one, the record of that sale described above.

Some of these are based outside the EU. Transfers rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for anyone's marketing but our own.

How long we keep it

Your email stays on the subscriber list until you unsubscribe, after which it is removed. Contact messages are kept for up to three years so we have the thread if you write again. Server logs roll over on our host's schedule.

Records of a purchase are kept for ten years. French law requires a business to retain its commercial records for that long, so a sale, the email address attached to it and the amount stay on file even if you unsubscribe. This is the one thing on this page we cannot delete on request.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to see the data we hold on you, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, and receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and using it is enough.

Write to hello@namebento.com or use the contact form. We answer within one month. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the CNIL, the French data protection authority, at cnil.fr.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it. Material changes affecting subscribers will be announced by email.
